MATTHEW, LIKKA and MADELEINE (New York City Photography – Central Park Family Portrait Session)

Happy Friday everyone!  Mets are in first place and football is starting… doesn’t get any better than this, amiright?

*****

Matthew, Likka and Madeleine were in town visiting New York last month.  Hailing from Anchorage, Alaska, I’m sure the heat and humidity were something they weren’t quite used to, but I bet all the sights, sounds and tastes of this beautiful city made up for it.

When Matthew first got in touch with me, the biggest issue was probably where to have the session.  It had to be something that was quintessential New York, photogenic and family friendly.  And what’s considered more New York than Central Park?

So we met up on a gorgeous Sunday morning and took a nice stroll through the park.  As you will see, Madeleine, Matthew and Likka’s daughter, is the most adorable little thing.  But she’s also got the smarts and the wit that far surpasses her age.

Being from New York, I always wonder what it would feel like if I was visiting this city as a tourist.  How much more of an amazing impression would the magic of the city leave on me if that was so?  Or maybe I would hate the noise, congestion and the attitude one inevitably develops in order to tolerate such things.

I was emailing with Matthew after he and his family returned to Alaska, and I think they definitely caught the New York bug… the humidity notwithstanding.  And I look forward to their next trip back to New York as much as I look forward to visiting them if/when I make my way to Alaska.

Matthew, Likka and Madeleine, I had such a blast getting to know you and I hope the photos from this session were able to capture some of that New York magic.  Cheers and keep in touch!

MELISSA + DAN (New York City Wedding Photography, Upper West Side Pier, Central Park Engagement Session)

I’ll never get tired of realizing how small this world is.

I received an email one morning from Dan, who was looking for a wedding photographer and got my contact info from a friend/co-worker of his, whose wedding I photographed a few years ago.  Nothing unusual about that, right?

We do the usual email exchange about little details here and there and set up a time to meet so Dan, his fiancee and I can talk in greater detail.  So we eventually meet up for coffee and we’re discussing everything from wedding details and cupcakes to the New York Mets and somehow or another, the topic comes around to dancing and fitness classes (two things I don’t know anything about, mind you).

It turns out that Melissa takes classes from a dance studio that’s owned and run by an old high school friend of mine.  Now, there are a few things in life that bug me out: one is when you’re reading something and you hear the exact word you just read spoken on tv or by the person sitting next you (no really, it happens to me more often than I think is normal) and two, when you meet people who are completely randomly connected to people in your past… which is why I always thought Friendster was pretty cool.  Remember Friendster?  No?

Moving on…

Melissa and Dan are set to wed in October, which I think has now become THE month to get married… which I get, because October is a pretty fantastic month, especially in terms of the weather here in New York.

Our engagement session began on the piers in the Upper West Side, the neighborhood that Dan and Melissa had their first date in, so the area carries a lot of significance for them.  The weather forecast for the day was a little sketch, but we decided to take a chance and see what we could get.  We took a nice walk around the neighborhood and eventually ended up in Central Park, where we wrapped up the session with some classic images and not one drop of rain the entire time.

Anyways, I’ve written way too many words.  Melissa and Dan, it was an absolute joy and pleasure to work with both of you on this.  Can’t wait for the big day in October!

Enjoy the photos, everyone!

GLENNYS + MICHAEL (NYC Wedding Photographer, Wagner Park, Gigino’s)

There are some couples who love the extravagance, the glitz, and the pomp and circumstance that come with a grandiose wedding ceremony and reception, while there are others who prefer quiet, simple and lowkey for their big day.  The wide variety in styles is what makes being in the wedding industry so fun and interesting.

With Glennys and Michael, we have the latter.  A sweet, simple ceremony at City Hall earlier in the day, the newlyweds celebrated their nuptials at Gigino’s at Wagner Park in downtown Manhattan.

It was a gorgeous evening, the weather being just right and the celebratory guests in attendance smiling, laughing and drinking into the night.  Much of the decor and motifs were designed and created by the couple themselves, adding to their bespoke style (check out the icing-less cake since the couple aren’t big fans of icing!).

All in all, it was a wonderful day and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to capture this fine event.  Congrats to Glennys and Michael!
